Please note that as per recommendations by the HSE and the Health Protection Surveillance Center – providing CPR in the community is a personal choice.
If you wish to go ahead, please note that it is strongly advised NOT to perform mouth to mouth resuscitation and to avoid hands on contact (listening to breaths sounds or touch) of the facial area. These recommendations are based on the fact that COVID-19 is highly transmissible via fluid and droplets from the respiratory tract. If at all possible wear gloves and a mask (a visor alone is not adequate) and ensure you wash your hands thoroughly afterwards. Alternatively use a alcohol based (min. 70%) hand sanitiser. All equipment used must be either disposed of correctly or cleaned to avoid further contamination. If the victim is a confirmed COVID-19 case you must advise the National Ambulance Service accordingly.
